An Introduction to Historical Social Network Analysis

Social Network Analysis is increasingly being deployed across a broad range of disciplines, from public health and government to business to the arts. The Humanities and History are no exception, but people who are interested in this new approach sometimes face a steep learning curve. In this event, Dr Matthew Hammond will offer an introduction to the concepts and methods of network analysis, including a brief tour of some of the software now available, then explore how SNA has been used by historians in a range of contexts. He will conclude by discussing his own experience and findings from the application of SNA to a large medieval prosopographical database.
